Whether you’re a car fanatic who loves a pristine vehicle, or you simply like keeping your car looking its very best, a professional car wash and valeting centre will always ensure superior results. Since 2002, Supergleam Car Wash and Valeting Centre in Cookstown has been providing professional services for everything from company cars and family cars, to work vans, lorries and more.
With proprietor, James Savage, at the helm, the business has grown steadily over the past 15 years and has a varied client base, including regular customers and contracted clients as well as passing trade. As a result, the business is now recruiting, with exciting new roles available for a manager/supervisor as well as hard-working car-washers and valeting staff.
“We’ve built up a good reputation over the years for delivering high-quality car washing and valeting services to our many customers,” says James. “We pride ourselves on offering a friendly and efficient set of services and always take great care of the vehicles we work with.
“Being based on the busy A29 Cookstown bypass, we get a lot of passing trade, as well as call-ins from regular customers. We’re also open seven days a week, so we now need extra staff to cope with demand. It’s very important that they have some interest in cars though – or have a passion for cars – and being friendly and able to communicate with a wide range of people is key.”
Indeed, a Supergleam employee could be washing a student’s car one minute and a large lorry the next; or they may be faced with an expensive sports car or corporate vehicle. Being able to interact professionally with customers from all backgrounds is therefore crucial, as is having a clean, current driving licence.
“Our staff have to move customer cars up and down ramps for MOT and PSV (Public Service Vehicles) washes, so they need to be careful and competent drivers,” says James. “They also need to be able to handle larger vehicles as well as just cars.”
At Supergleam, everyone takes responsibility for delivering excellent customer service, and a hand-on approach is adopted by all – including the manager. As proprietor, James is always on site working alongside his employees, and he expects the new manager/supervisor to do the same.
“It’s important that the person we recruit has some experience of managing, as we run a busy and professional centre which demands a professional overseer,” he says. “I currently work seven days a week, so it would be great to have someone trustworthy and experienced who could take on some of my duties. 
“They would be expected, however, to muck in with everyone else, moving and washing vehicles as required, as well as being a key-holder for the centre. This is a full-time position and an experienced, qualified valeter would be ideal, but anyone who loves cars and has some years of business management behind them is welcome to apply.”
Meanwhile, a few roles are also now available for dedicated car washers and valeting staff, whose duties will include manual car washing, valeting and MOT washes. They too, must have clean, current driving licences, with great customer service skills and a professional attitude.
“I think there’s sometimes a misconception that working at a car wash is something anyone can do,” says James. “It’s actually a very physical job, so you need to be strong and mobile and able to cope with a steady stream of vehicles coming in for service. Excellent communication skills are also key, as you have to interact with all kinds of customers, and knowing your way around a car is important.
“That’s why it’s best if applicants have an interest in cars and if possible, some knowledge of them, as they’ll have to handle all types of vehicles every day – and take good care of them.”

Located close to Cookstown’s MOT centre, Supergleam is perfectly placed to wash vehicles before they get checked. Meanwhile, a car collection service is also available for valets and while your car is being washed, you can relax in the café just a few paces away as you prefer. A mechanics and a petrol station is also based beside Supergleam, for added convenience.
