Copywriting at WordCamp Belfast

On October 1 and 2, Belfast will host its first-ever WordCamp event for WordPress users at the newly renovated Peter Froggatt Centre at Queen’s University. Attracting a number of speakers from across the UK and Ireland, it promises to be a weekend jam-packed full of tips and tricks to use on WordPress, along with advice on all sorts of WordPress-related topics.

Like a lot of people, I use WordPress as my online content management system – both for this business website and also for my personal creative writing blog. I’m one of the 26% of global WordPress users who just love the accessibility of the system and the fact that it’s free to use (a perk, you will surely agree).

I wouldn’t really describe myself as a ‘techie’ – I know the basics, nothing more – but the great thing is that WordCamp Belfast is aimed at people like myself (WordPress users who want to learn more), as well as being for the more technically-minded. From what I’ve heard of other WordCamp events across the globe, these weekends always have something for everyone – with plenty to learn along the way.

And – just to prove that it isn’t all about the tech, I’ll be speaking on the Saturday morning about copywriting, with no coding references AT ALL. So, it really is an event for everyone!

Publishing quality content on your WordPress website and/or blog is key when it comes to helping with SEO and engaging an audience. It’s very easy to post any old content online, but it will pay dividends if what you put up is actually well-written, useful and interesting, whether it’s for business or personal use.copywriting

My talk on Saturday morning (the full schedule is here if you’re interested) will give a brief overview on copywriting for the web. I’ll be looking at the differences between writing for the web vs writing for print, website writing dos and don’ts, SEO, the importance of editing and what it involves, online storytelling and hopefully also a bit about blogging, with some tips on that (time permitting). There’ll also be the chance for a quick Q&A, so be kind!

Discount alert: If you’ve read this far, then thanks and also – there may still be a 20% discount off the already great price of £27.50, bringing it down to just £22. This was to run until September 15, or until all the discount code usage was used up, so it’s worth checking out! The code is: wcb779n2 so give it a wee go sure.

Hopefully, I’ll see some of you there on Saturday, October 1 (11.30am). 🙂
