My copywriting week that was

The life of a copywriter and journalist is never a dull one, and as much as I love the writing side of my job, I also really enjoy meeting all the different people that go with it. When I worked at the local paper however, even my family often asked me – ‘What do you do all day?’ Being a reporter was quite alien to them, as I was the first in the family to choose that particular career path, and the copywriting life isn’t much different really!

So, here’s a brief overview of what I did last week:

Blogged on the Belfast Media Festival for my website

– Wrote and sent out some business proposals to potential clients

– Wrote and responded to A LOT of emails

– Wrote and emailed invoices

– Created an SEO exercise and compiled some web writing tips for use in a workshop

Interviewed travel writer/filmmaker, Leon McCarron, for Culture NI

– Wrote content for various websites, including the home pages for the Muddyfarm and National Minitrac sites (also writing for a medic centre, dental company and carpentry firm)

Edited and rewrote an article for a local primary school for a magazine

– Attended some business meetings…

And so on and so forth. That’s the jist of it anyway. 🙂 I also did the usual online networking, including the inaugural #northernirelandhour on Twitter on Monday night and #nistartupshour on Tuesday night. I missed #BelfastHour for once, but only because I was taking in a poetry lecture and then the Gulliver play from Big Telly Theatre NI.

Meanwhile, although I ordinarily reserve the weekend for personal pursuits, I combined business with pleasure by interviewing Derry lawyer/crime writer, Desmond J Doherty about his latest book. I also put on my own literary hat and swung by The Playhouse, which was hosting the Women of the World Festival, to pick up my copy of the SHIFT Lit – Derry magazine for new writing, in which I have a wee short story (fiction). Then it was on to the Verbal Arts Centre to review a double book launch from the facility’s founder, Sam Burnside. Both this and the Doherty interview of course, then had to be written up (they’ll be on Culture NI this week!).

So, now you know all about the week that was for Claire Savage Editorial, and the days that are coming are shaping up to be suitably eclectic. 🙂
